A new document indicates that most of the children in Ontario waiting for core autism therapy won’t be getting it anytime soon.
According to the provincial government, the Ontario Autism Program budget is $667-million, but that will only service about 20-thousand children.
There are currently about 60-thousand kids seeking services through the program, with about seven thousand added to the list every year.
The document says families can access a range of other services, but most children and youth will not receive core clinical services funding in the short to medium term.
The Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services it set to provide the Treasury Board with an updated cost forecast this fall.
