On this day (Wednesday July 26th) when Prime Minister Trudeau shuffles his cabinet, we’ve learned seven new MPs will be promoted to the inner circle, including three new GTA ministers.
A Toronto Star report also says in addition to the infusion of rookies, several experienced ministers will remain in critical roles while other cabinet veterans will move.
Oakville MP Anita Anand is expected to be moved from defence to Treasury Board, while the current minister Mona Fortier is said to be out.
Former Toronto police chief Bill Blair is reported to be on the move from emergency preparedness to defense. Also pegged to move is House leader Mark Holland into the health portfolio.
Others expected to be dropped from cabinet are Marco Mendicino and David Lametti.
It’s also likely Pablo Rodriguez, currently heritage minister, will take over transport while Sport Minister Pascale St. Onge will move into heritage.
The names that will stay in their portfolios are Chrystia Freeland as deputy prime minister and finance minister, Melanie Joly in foreign affairs, Francois-Philippe Champagne in science and innovation and Steven Guilbeault in environment and climate change.
A swearing-in ceremony will take place at Rideau Hall late Wednesday morning for what is expected to be the most significant cabinet shuffle since 2021.
