Riders who use the Scarborough RT can expect to take buses for the next few days after a derailment of one of the cars Monday evening.

It happened on a southbound train near Kennedy and Elsemere Roads around 7pm.

Five people experienced minor injuries and were taken to hospital to get checked out.

TTC CEO Rick Leary was on the scene and says the incident is fully under investigation.

“What I can tell you is the fourth car of a four car train separated and derailed. We do know about 44 or 45 people were on the train in total, five of them with minor injuries have been taken to the hospital. We’re doing a full investigation with staff here and also consult with some outside specialists to come in as well,” Leary explained.

Tuesday morning, TTC Spokesperson Stuart Green said there would be 70 to 80 buses running in place of the SRT during the day, with 40 in use during peak periods.

The Scarborough RT is set to be decommissioned entirely on November 23rd after exceeding its lifespan for nearly a decade.
