Justin Trudeau is hoping the number 7 proves to be lucky when the next election comes around.
Sources say that’s how many new faces there will be around the cabinet table after a major mid-week shakeup.
Anita Anand will reportedly move from Defence to an economic portfolio.
Apparently, David Lametti will be dropped from Justice, Marco Mendocino from Public Safety, and Mona Fortier as Treasury Board president.
Ahead of the shuffle, four ministers; three from the GTA and one from B.C., have announced they’re not seeking re-election.
Public Services Minister Helena Jaczek, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett and Fisheries Minister Joyce Murray.
Senior government sources also say Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly and Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault are staying put.
A number of rookies are expected to join cabinet with the government aiming to put key communicators on files that matter most to Canadians: cost-of-living, affordability and housing.
