It was to have been a showcase of athletes from Canada and all former British colonies

The 2026 Commonwealth Games were scheduled for Victoria State in Australia in March of 2026.  However, the costs of staging the games have tripled since Victoria volunteered as host and Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews says the cost, at $6-7 billion,  is now twice as much as the projected economic benefits.

The games are a multi-sport tournament that take place every four years.  They have only ever been cancelled during World War II.
