When it hit the movie screen in 1964, Stanley’s Kurbrik’s apocalyptic Cold War comedy was an instant hit and an instant classic.
Dr. Strangelove was released two years after the Cuban missile crisis brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.
Kubrick’s widow says the family has always been reluctant to let anyone adapt any of Stanley’s work but has agreed to do the play because the subject matter is particularly relevant in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Dr. Strangelove – The Play” is to be staged in London’s West End next fall.
