Ukrainian officials say their air defenses shot down 20 Iranian-made drones fired by Russia mostly aimed at the Kyiv region.
Authorities said wreckage from the drones fell on four districts of the capital early Thursday, wounding two people and destroyed several homes.
The latest salvo by the Kremlin’s forces began shortly after midnight and explosions shook different parts of the city.
Rescuers knocked down a fire in a 16-story building in Kyiv as well as in a nonresidential building.
Debris also damaged the frontage of a 25-story apartment building.
Russian drone and missile strikes have become a harrowing routine in Ukraine over the almost 17 months of the war.
