A tornado has touched down in a suburb in Ottawa’s southend.

Video and images posted by resident to Twitter show its  path.

Close to 150 homes in Barrhaven have been damaged but there are no reports of serious injuries.

Firefighters and structural collapse teams have been sent to Umbra Place.

They’re shutting off the gas in some neighbourhoods as they check on shaken residents and power is expected to be restored to about 1,600 homes by Thursday evening.

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe says both levels of government have reached out to help.

Following the Ottawa tornado, Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for parts of Quebec including Montreal.
