Following her byelection win on June 26th, Chow is scheduled to take the declaration of office at Toronto City Hall in an 11am ceremony.

“I’m excited! I’m anticipating good vibes,” Chow told reporters on Monday.

The ceremony is set to be emceed by Kim’s Convenience actor Jean Yoon and will feature Indigenous teachings, a musical performance and a reading by the poet laureate.

The former NDP Member of parliament and longtime Toronto city councillor Chow succeeds John Tory who resigned in disgrace this past February.

The new mayor faces a daunting task in dealing with a billion dollar COVID-19 related budget gap, as city staff warn $300-million in capital projects will need to be deferred to compensate.

Next month, Olivia Chow is planning to lead a council debate on Toronto’s fiscal outlook.
