A former Charles Manson “family” member, who who played a role in the LaBianca murders in Los Angeles in 1969, has been paroled after more than half a century in prison.
73 year old Leslie Van Houten was initially sentenced to death and went on to serve 53 years in prison.
In 1969, at age 19, she and other members of the so-called Manson family broke into the home of wealthy grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, stabbing both to death.
The previous night, other members of the Manson Family murdered actress Sharon Tate and four others at the Tate residence.
The murders were detailed in the book “Helter Skelter,” written by prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi.
Van Houten was denied parole three times by different California Governors.
