The NATO summit is now underway in Lithuania with Justin Trudeau putting forward Canada’s position on Ukraine joining the alliance.

Canada’s prime minister says “as a matter of principle and friendship, Canadians are absolutely firm on our support of Ukraine including on welcoming Ukraine to NATO when conditions allow, and that’s what I said a few weeks ago when I was with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv. And that’s certainly what we’re talking about here. I know that is not a unanimously held position amongst NATO.”

A big question heading into the NATO summit is whether President Zelenskyy would attend.

We are now learning that he will attend and will be meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden Wednesday.

It will mark their third face to face meeting this year.

The summit got underway with news Turkey’s president withdrew his country’s objections to Sweden joining NATO. Hungary is expected to follow suit.
