The Ford government is formally requesting the go ahead for another three small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) at its Darlington power plant.
That’s where one is already being built and is expected to be completed in five-years.
Each of the reactors is about the size of a football field, and all four would produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of 1.2-million homes by the mid-2030s.
Earlier this week, the government announced that it’s looking to build the first large nuclear plant in over 30-years.
Energy Minister Todd Smith says Bruce Power will now begin community consultations and conduct an environmental assessment for federal approval to determine the feasibility of putting it on the site of its current generating station on the shore of Lake Huron.
The province says the plant could generate enough power for almost 5-million homes.
