It is the largest attack on civilian infrastructure in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv since Russian forces invaded Ukraine more than 16 months ago.

According to Ukraine’s interior minister, four people have been killed and at least 34 wounded, while about 60 apartments and 50 cars in the area of the strike were damaged.

The clean up is underway after entire floors of a residential building were destroyed, leaving the streets below covered in rubble.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has posted his reaction online, saying “There will definitely be a response to the enemy. A tangible one.”

Emergency service workers are searching for more trapped people.

Ukraine’s air force reported it intercepted seven of the ten cruise missiles that Russia fired from the Black Sea toward the Lviv region around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian war refugees have sought safety in Lviv.
