TRUDEAU LIBERALS' CONCERNS AROUND AT-RISK SPECIES COULD HALT DOUG FORD'S GREENBELT DEVELOPMENT PLANS

The Trudeau Liberals may spoil Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s plans to develop part of the Greenbelt for new housing.

A briefing note prepared for the Federal Environment Minister lists 29 at-risk-species which live on the protected lands.

This distinction of endangered species could force the provincial Progressive Conservatives to slow or even abandon their plan to build thousands of homes on land removed from the Greenbelt.

It’s not the first time the Ottawa Liberals have intervened in the Ontario premier’s plans.

The Tories’ Highway 413 project has been frozen since 2021 after the feds decided to pause it and demand more detailed studies to protect at-risk species.
