It certainly won’t be as lavish as King Charles’ coronation at Westminster Abbey in London but, today Scotland is set to host its own event to mark his accession to the throne.
The focal point is a service of thanksgiving at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, where Charles will be presented with the Scottish Honours, including the crown, crown jewels, scepter and sword of state, that were once used to crown Scotland’s kings and queens.
The ceremony is seen by Buckingham Palace as an attempt to showcase and honour Scotland without encouraging Scottish nationalism.
