Popular character actor Alan Arkin has passed away.
No cause was given in a statement from his sons Adam, Anthony and Matthew.
While a member of Chicago’s famed Second City comedy troupe, Arkin appeared in the 1966 Cold War spoof ”The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming.”
Nominated three times for Academy Awards, he finally won an Oscar in 2007 as the grandfather in ”Little Miss Sunshine.”
Arkin also directed the film version of Jules Feiffer’s 1971 dark comedy ”Little Murders” and Neil Simon’s 1972 play ”The Sunshine Boys.”
