Sue Johanson could not have spoken truer words.

Before gaining fame as a broadcast sex educator, the Toronto-born registered nurse trained at Winnipeg’s St. Boniface Hospital.

In 1970, she opened a birth control clinic at her daughter Jane’s Toronto high school; Don Mills Collegiate Institute, where she ran it for 16-years.

With her grandmotherly appearance and straightforward, matter-of-fact, humourous approach, Johanson earned her call-in advice shows a loyal following; first on radio and later on both Canadian and American TV.

Praised for ”listening without judgment” and helping Canadians improve their understanding of sexuality and health choices, Johanson was awarded the Order of Canada in 2000, and invested the next year.
