Byelections have been called in Toronto and Ottawa for July 27th.
One is for Scarborough-Guildwood to replace Mitzie Hunter, who resigned her provincial seat to run in the recent Toronto Mayoral race.
Under provincial law, Hunter had resign her seat in the legislature in order to run for Toronto mayor. She held one of the legislature’s few Liberal seats.
The other is to fill the Ottawa riding of Kanata-Carleton left vacant by former minister Merrilee Fullerton who abruptly resigned both her post as minister of children, community and social services and her seat.
Ontario will likely soon have another byelection, as Laura Mae Lindo, who represents Kitchener-Centre for the NDP, has indicated she’ll resign next month.
Under the Election Act, elections must be called on a Wednesday and held the fifth Thursday after the date of the issue of the writ.
