He was the man credited with keeping the names of victims of the Nazi Holocaust alive.
Haim Roet started reading the names of Jews murdered by the Nazis during World War II at a protest in 1989; a practice that’s now become a part of memorial ceremonies around the world.
After surviving the Holocaust by hiding in a village in the Netherlands, Roet went on to create a memorial project called “Unto Every Person There is a Name.” The goal was to ensure the six million Jews who perished are never forgotten.
Haim Roet has died at his home in Jerusalem.
He was 90 years old.
