Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie is filing a motion at Tuesday’s council meeting that if passed, asks the the federal government to change the lyrics to O Canada.

The motion asks one line in the official anthem be changed to “our home on native land” after Canadian singer Jully Black used the alternate lyrics recently during the NBA all star game.

Crombie’s motion says that Black’s version of the anthem highlights the truth of the history of Canada and is seen as an act of reconciliation.

The last time the anthem was altered was in 2018 when “in all thy sons command” was changed to a gender-neutral “in all of us command.”
