Tina Turner’s relationship with Canada goes far beyond her collaboration with rocker Bryan Adams.
The Queen of Rock’n Roll is being remembered in Newfoundland for an unforgettable series of shows in St. John’s that launched the North American leg of her Private Dancer tour in 1985.
Newfoundlander and Ontario NDP leader Marit Stiles says it was the biggest concert to ever come to the city.
“I remember very clearly feeling this sense of pride and I remember her talking to the media about how it was a safe place for her to launch and that made me proud as a Newfoundlander,” said Stiles.
Stiles was 15 when Turner came to St. John’s and though Stiles could not get tickets she listened to a show from an open window in a house nearby.
