A Royal is visiting the Maritimes this weekend.

King Charles’ sister Princess Anne – a former Olympic equestrian rider – is in New Brunswick to mark the 175th anniversary of the oldest continuous serving army regiment in Canada.

The 72-year-old  old Royal has been it’s honorary colonel since the early ’70’s and has maintained a close relationship with the unit.

“Certainly its formation back in 1848 as a response to expansionist American ideology flowing from the Revolutionary War and then picking up again during the Civil War, was quite remarkable, these were townsfolk, craftsmen, artists, farmers who came together to defend New Brunswick at that time and subsequently, Canada,” says James Lockyer, the regiment’s honorary colonel.

The princess is set to attend celebrations in Moncton and Sussex, including a commemorative concert, an anniversary parade and a gala dinner.
