Elise Amendola, a renowned Associated Press photojournalist who brilliantly documented major worldwide news and sporting events over several decades, has died at age 70

According to her wife and fellow photographer Mary Schwalm, Amendola died Thursday at her home in North Andover, Massachusetts, following a 13-year struggle with ovarian cancer.

Amendola documented several significant historical events, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Boston Marathon bombing, the 9/11 World Trade Centre attacks, U.S. presidential campaigns, and numerous Super Bowls, Olympics, World Series, and other big sporting events.
