The city of Buffalo, New York will mark the passing of one year since a white supremacist gunman killed 10 Black people and injured three victims at a supermarket.

On Sunday, the city’s East side will observe a moment of silence in front of Tops Friendly Market. Mayor Byron Brown will preside.

At 2:28 pm, church bells will ring to commemorate the time of the massacre. The relatives of the victims have spoken before Congress about white supremacy and gun control in the year since the shooting.

Others have tried to fight the food insecurity that worsened when the sole grocery store in the neighbourhood was closed for two months.

The gunman has been imprisoned for life.
