Calls for the city to upload maintenance of the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway to the province will not be answered.
”We aren’t uploading the Gardiner,” says Doug Ford.
”They (city) just want to throw their burden onto us.  They’re responsible for it and they have to fix it.”
The call came from Toronto mayoral candidate Ana Bailao, who points out the two highways are most often used by motorists who live outside the city.
Bailao also says when Ford was a city councillor in 2012 he was among those calling for tolls, because Bailao says he knew then what’s true now — city taxpayers cannot afford to be paying for upkeep of the Gardiner and Parkway.
Rival Olivia Chow says in a statement ”Like the Gardiner, Bailao’s big plans for Toronto are crumbling.”
Meanwhile, Ford also earlier made comments appearing to endorse candidate Mark Saunders, the former police chief, without mentioning his name.
”We need someone who has experience dealing with crime…we need someone in Toronto that knows all of Toronto, not a little ward that they’ve been representing.”
To which Bailao responds, someone who only represented a ”little” ward became Premier.
She adds with Saunders his preferred choice, what that means is Doug Ford intends to run City Hall and Queen’s Park.
