New documents obtained by The Narwhal through access to information show a member of Doug Ford’s staff discussed Greenbelt changes months before the premier says he heard about it shortly before the public last fall.

Premier Doug Ford is denying this new claim.

“I just want to categorically say no, it wasn’t discussed, it’s very simple, what we’re there to do, it to build homes, to make sure we hit our target of 1.5 million homes.”

Ford also says the way the Greenbelt was created by the former Liberal government was a big scam and then boasted that he’s grown the protected land by 2,000 acres.

NDP Leader Marit Stiles says the document raise serious questions. the documents obtained by The Narwhal raise serious questions. In a statement, she writes: “As more evidence of backroom dealings in the Greenbelt Grab emerge, Ford’s Conservatives used their majority to block an NDP bill that would strengthen integrity rules for MPPs and halt the return of cash-for-access culture at Queen’s Park.”

But the NDP’s proposed bill to hold government account has been defeated by the Ford government. They say Bill 100 was intended to strengthen the Member’s Integrity Act in response to the Stag and Doe story to hold Doug Ford’s cash-for-access government more accountable.

Doug Ford responded by saying his government has a structure that is working adding “this is just a little political manoeuvre from the opposition.”

The bill stated that MPPs shall not accept gifts “connected directly or indirectly” to their job that give the appearance of a conflict of interest.
