Canadian music legend Gordon Lightfoot will be laid to rest next to his parents in a private ceremony in Orillia today.
This, as plans for a star-studded night celebrating Lightfoot’s legacy take shape.
Long time friend and promoter Bernie Fiedler says a number of prominent Canadian musicians, who counted themselves among Lightfoot’s friends, have already committed to the show. That list includes the likes of Burton Cummings, Murray MacLauchlan and Tom Cochrane. Fielder also hopes Lightfoot’s original band will play if the members are willing.
Fiedler can’t say when the memorial might occur, but he’s hoping it takes place at the venue Lightfoot frequented most, Toronto’s Massey Hall.
Gordon Lightfoot died last week at the age of 84.
