Transit riders in most parts of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area can use debit cards to pay their fare.

”With millions of active users across the GTHA, the launch of debit payment on PRESTO devices is another way our government is making transit more convenient and accessible for Ontarians,” Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney said in a statement.

PRESTO debit and credit card payments are now available on GO Transit, UP Express, Brampton Transit, Burlington Transit, Oakville Transit, York and Durham Region Transit, MiWay in Mississauga and Hamilton Street Railway.

The province is working with the TTC to introduce both payment options this summer.

Paratransit riders in Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton, York and Durham Region and Ottawa can also now use both credit and debit card payment.

PRESTO has about 4.7-million active users.
