GERMAN PRESIDENT VISITING BRITISH COLUMBIA'S LOWER MAINLAND

On day three of a four-day trip to Canada, the president of Germany is is visiting British Columbia’s Lower Mainland Tuesday.

Before travelling to Vancouver for a roundtable conversation with German and Canadian business representatives, Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to have a tour of the Burnaby fuel cell enterprise Cellcentric.

Later, he will be welcomed by Premier David Eby and given a boat tour of Vancouver Harbour before visiting the University of British Columbia’s Smart Hydrogen Energy District, which will soon include a hydrogen refuelling station.

On Monday, Steinmeier was in Ottawa when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reported that 58 Canadians had been flown out of Sudan as fighting erupted in the nation’s capital.

During a reception in Ottawa, Steinmeier stated that the rule of law and inclusivity are under risk due to an increase in autocratic leadership around the world, and democracies must safeguard and defend these principles from assault.

On Wednesday, Steinmeier will fly to the north to Yellowknife and Tuktoyaktuk for a variety of activities, including discussions with government representatives and a visit to the Joint Operations Centre in the North of the Canadian Armed Forces.
