Canada’s auditor-general says she won’t look into how the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation handled two donations with possible links to the Beijing government.
”I have determined that my office will not be conducting an audit,” Karen Hogan announced.
”This decision is based on the scope of my authority under the Auditor General Act and our review of the endowment agreement between the government of Canada and the foundation,” she added.
Last week, the foundation’s interim board chair wrote the auditor-general saying it would welcome a probe of donations made in 2016 and 2017.
The foundation’s CEO and most board members recently stepped down due to what they described as the politicization of a donation from Chinese billionaire Zhang Bin and another businessman, Niu Genhsheng.
