He always denied it but Freddie Scappaticci’s life may well have been the stuff of an Ian Fleming novel.

It’s always been suspected that Scappaticci may well have been the spy known as “Stakeknife,” the code name of a high-ranking British mole in the Irish Republican Army during the troubles in Northern Ireland.

Scappaticc was in charge of the Irish Republican Army’s internal security and always stubbornly denied he had ever been a double agent.

The British media is reporting that Freddie Scappaticci has died as he lived encased in a mystery carrying a whiff of violence, death and deceit.

Apparently the usual obituary details like the date, location and cause of death are missing.  But at the time his death became known, the British media suggested he had already been buried at an undisclosed location and has been living under the witness protection program.

It’s believed Scapaticci was in his mid to late 70s.
