Saying he thinks she’s ”a better team builder,” mayoral candidate Gil Penalosa has dropped out of the race to support former city councillor and MP Olivia Chow.
In making the announcement, Penalosa says she has ”the experience, values and the sense of urgency to make our city more inclusive and liveable for everyone.”
He adds she’s ”the right person to bring positive, progressive change.”
Chow released a statement thanking Penalosa.
”I’m very grateful for the support … Gil’s passion to make cities better for everyone is known around the world.
I’ve admired his expertise and dedication for years.
We share values and we both understand the need to build a city that can serve the diverse needs of communities in Toronto.
I will continue to work with Gil to make sure his ideas to improve our civic life are heard and implemented at city hall,” Chow’s statement reads.
Penalosa finished second to John Tory in the municipal election last fall.
