Peel Police have cracked a major auto theft ring.
Peel police received assistance from Border Services and the Port of Montreal.
“Through the team’s amazing investigative work, this project has lead to the detection, arrest, seizure and recovery of auto thefts,” said Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.
Four people have been arrested and 78 vehicles recovered as part of a crime group that targeted cars in the GTA.
“The seizure is worth $10 million dollars, and takes in money out of organized crime that could otherwise support other criminal activity including firearms, drug trafficking and a variety of other criminal activities that we all know occurs as the result of stolen autos.”
The accused are facing a total of 34 charges including theft, fraud and possession of property obtained by crime.
The stolen vehicles were loaded on containers and taken by truck or train to the Port of Montreal to be exported overseas.
