It seems Canadians are largely indifferent to King Charles.

According to a new Leger poll, more than half believe his May 6th coronation is the right time for Canada to reconsider its ties with the monarchy.

Only 12 percent of respondents say its good news that Charles is now King, compared with 14 percent who say its bad news and 67 percent who are indifferent.

And just 13 percent of those surveyed say they feel a personal attachment to the monarchy, compared with 81 per cent who do not have an attachment to the monarchy.

The survey also found the level of attachment to the monarchy has dropped since the days immediately following Queen Elizabeth’s death last September.

Meantime, King Charles celebrated his first Commonwealth Day as the symbolic head of the 56 country group.

“Ours is an association, not just of shared values, but of common purpose and joint action,” Charles explained.

In a statement, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented on Commonwealth Day to say countries in the Commonwealth build consensus through deliberation and advocate for the inclusion of small and vulnerable states on the world stage.
