The last surviving original member of the Jacksonville, Florida based band Lynyrd Skynyrd has died.

The band announced Gary Rossington’s passing on Facebook.

No cause was given.

He helped found the group in 1964 and played on and co-wrote hits like “Freebird” and “Sweet Home Alabama.”

Gary Rossington was 71.
