Here in the City of Toronto, you will soon begin to see clearing of snow from bike lanes and the areas next to curbs that took the overflow from the first round of snow clearing.

“We’re actually sending snow blowers, front end loaders, and small snow clearers with front buckets to actually pick up the snow, put them in dump trucks and send them to our snow dumps,” explained Vince Sferazza, Director of Operations and Maintenance for City of Toronto Transportation Services, who joined The Morning Zoom with Sam and Jane on Zoomer Radio.

As for how long this operation is going to take, Sferazza said, “You’re going to see the blowers probably starting up tonight (Monday) after rush hour. We’re anticipating that this is going to take this week. We’re hoping that we can get it done this week, all of it. But we definitely need to clear the snow from the bicycle lanes, side walks, and the snow routes.”

A major snowstorm condition was declared on Saturday following Friday night’s record breaking snowfall.

Drivers who fail to remove their vehicles in designated snow routes will be subject to towing and a $200 fine.

These areas are primarily located downtown and include all streetcar routes. They are marked with orange signage with the letter P crossed out.
