After some Tory MPs were criticized for meeting with a German politician who had visited Canada, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has denounced her.
Christine Anderson, a member of the European Parliament, was pictured at a restaurant with Tory MPs Dean Allison, Colin Carrie, and Leslyn Lewis.
Anderson is a member of the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany party, which the German intelligence service has been keeping an eye on since 2021 as a possible extremist organisation.
As images of the MPs’ meeting with Anderson were posted online, the head of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network and at least two Canadian Jewish organisations voiced their concerns.
In a written statement, Poilievre says Anderson’s views are “vile” and that her “racist, hateful views are not welcome here.”
He continued by saying that the Conservative MPs that met with her regretted meeting her since they were unaware of her ideas.
