Toronto residents will head to the polls June 26th.

The city clerk has set the tentative date for a by-election to replace John Tory.  Nominations are set to open April 3 at 8:30 a.m. and close May 12 at 2 p.m. and advance voting will take place June 8 to 13.

The cost of the by-election is around $13 million compared to last year’s general election that totaled $14.5 million when voter turnout was just 30 % of eligible voters.

Former Mayor David Crombie told Libby Znaimer on Zoomer Radio’s “Fight Back” the by-election may see priorities change at city hall.

“I think the leadership by a new Mayor will different, I’m not sure how different, but yes patterns will begin to change and people will try and figure out which issues are more important than others.”

In a news release, the city says the by-election is contingent on an upcoming meeting when council will consider recommendations from the clerk to formally the declare the office of the mayor vacant and to pass a bylaw requiring a by-election.

There has been a push by some councillors to delay the by-election until the fall.
