Families of students in Halton Region will learn later Wednesday what a dress code for teachers could look like, as school board members try to address the controversy over a teacher at Oakville Trafalgar High School who wears large prosthetic breasts with nipples showing through their blouses and sweaters.

A Halton Board meeting is to be held Wednesday night when Director of Education Curtis Ennis is to provide an interim update on the upcoming professionalism policy, including standards of dress, ordered by a major of trustees who pushed reluctant administrators to act amid the ongoing opposition backlash at the Oakville school that began last September.

The full policy is expected by March 1st.

Lawyer Rish Bandhu is the father of a grade 9 student at the school where the teacher in question works. He’s representing a small group of parents threatening to pursue legal action.

Bandhu says he’s 100 percent supportive of transgender students and teachers at any institution, but he says he believes they need to dress appropriately and the board needs to be responsive to the concerns of parents and not ignore them.

Images of the shop teacher wearing tight tops, revealing the large breasts and protruding nipples, have garnered international headlines and prompted protests as well as threats of violence at the high school.
