A book of condolences for former Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion is available to the public at Queen’s Park. Premier Doug Ford was among the first to leave a message.

“This will be open to the public starting at 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. from today until Monday, so if you’d like to come by Queen’s Park, we’ll be open to sign your condolences to Hazel,” said Ford. “To Hazel, I wrote a nice little note, we’re going to miss her and she was a true mentor and a friend.”

McCallion died January 29th at 101, just shy of her Valentine’s Day birthday which is the same day as her funeral.

Several dignataries are expected to attend her funeral at Paramount Fine Foods Centre with limited seating for the public.

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie was among the first to sign a book of condolences for ‘Hurricane Hazel’ Monday morning, telling reporters afterwards that a part of her always felt like her longtime friend and mentor might just “live forever.”
