Ontario’s integrity commissioner has received new information from incoming NDP Leader Marit Stiles about the Ford government’s plan to open up the Greenbelt for housing.
”The more information we uncover about Ford’s scheme to tear up the Greenbelt, the more concerned I become,” says Stiles.
She points to a meeting last November, when land developer – the Rice Group – told King Township Mayor Steve Pellegrini, that a parcel of land, which was part of the Greenbelt, ”could be provided for a fee for a local project.”
Stiles adds that land became available three days later, when the government announced its plans.
”Maybe they had a crystal ball, but it seems to me like someone knew something.”
The premier and housing minister have strongly denied giving developers a heads up.
The auditor-general is also looking into the Greenbelt decision while the OPP continues considering whether to launch an investigation.
