It revolutionized international air travel.

And on Tuesday, Boeing delivers its final 747 jumbo jet.

Since it debuted in 1969, the 747 has served as a cargo plane, a commercial aircraft capable of carrying nearly 500 passengers, and America’s Air Force One presidential aircraft.

But over the past 15 years, Boeing and its European rival Airbus have introduced more profitable and fuel-efficient wide-body planes, with two engines instead of the 747’s four engines.

The final plane is the 1574th built by Boeing in Washington state.

(Boeing 747-8 Freighter: The last Boeing 747 left the company’s widebody factory in Washington on December 6, 2022, ahead of its delivery to Atlas Air in early 2023.)
