The speaker of the Russian parliament has cautioned that nations supplying Ukraine with more potent weaponry run the risk of their own destruction.
The message comes after further commitments to supply Ukraine’s military with armoured vehicles, air defence systems, and other weapons, but not the battle tanks that Kiev had asked.
State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said Sunday the West could expect a “global tragedy that would destroy their countries” if they continue to supply Ukraine with powerful weapons.
On Friday, allies of Ukraine committed billions of euros in military assistance, but the new commitments were overshadowed by defence leaders’ failure to reach an agreement at an international meeting in Ramstein, Germany, on Ukraine’s urgent need for Leopard 2 combat tanks produced in Germany.
