'SWEET HEREAFTER" AUTHOR DIES AT 82

The prize-winning author who wrote the novel “The Sweet Hereafter” has died.

Russel Banks’ book was turned into the 1997 film of the same name by Toronto director and producer Atom Egoyon.

The story tells the tale of a small Canadian community that is devastated when a school bus accident leaves more than a dozen of its children dead.

Banks’ other novels included “Continental Drift” and “Cloudsplitter.”

Russell Banks was 82.

Cause of death was cancer.
