The last surviving astronaut from the first successful crewed mission in NASA’s Apollo program has died.

Walter Cunningham was board Apollo 7 when it blasted off in July of 1968 on an 11-day mission that paved the way for the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969.

His wife confirms he passed away Tuesday from complications suffered in a fall.

Walter Cunningham was 90.
