For Zoomers of a certain vintage, this will bring back a flood of memories.
Believe it or not, it’s been 75 years since Howdy Doody hit the airwaves and became television’s first hit show.
It debuted at 5:30 p.m. on December 27, 1947 and certain viewers will remember having to sit through the test pattern before the show actually came on.
The Howdy Doody Show featured a string puppet named “Howdy.” host “Buffalo” Bob Smith, a clown named Clarabell (who was first played by Bob Keeshan, who went on to star as Captain Kangaroo) and a “peanut gallery” made up of 40 children.
In November of 1954, a Canadian version of Howdy Doody hit the TV screens. It was produces in Toronto and ran five seasons.
