Winter officially arrives Wednesday at 4:48 p.m., with the first storm of the season expected the following day.
Environment Canada says it may start as rain or snow late Thursday before possibly changing to rain in many spots early Friday.
Temperatures are expected to plunge Friday, leading to a potential flash freeze for those areas that get rain.
The rapidly falling temperatures will be accompanied by strong to potentially damaging winds, along with snow that may be heavy at times.
Blizzard conditions are possible late Friday into Christmas weekend for areas south of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
However, details regarding types of precipitation and amounts, along with wind speeds are uncertain right now.
Temperatures Friday night into the weekend will likely be the coldest so far this season.
Environment Canada also says to consider changing travel plans through Christmas weekend as conditions may become dangerous.
