She is a national treasure and she is suffering.

Thursday morning, Celine Dion posted a video on her Instagram account saying she is dealing with a neurological condition called Stiff Person Syndrome.

“I’m working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to build back my strength and my ability to perform again,” Celine says in the Instagram video.

Because of her condition, Dion, who is now 54, has cancelled all of her shows for the summer of 2023 and postponed shows scheduled for the spring of 2023 to 2024 while she works to get better.

“But I have to admit it’s been a struggle. All I know is singing. It’s what I’ve done all of my life and it’s what I love to do the most,” she goes on to say.

Celine has been suffering back spasms for a while now and says they have been definitely linked to Stiff Person Syndrom.

SPS is a rare acquired neurological disorder characterized by progressive muscle stiffness and repeated episodes of painful muscle spasms.

The severity and progression of SPS varies from one person to another.

If left untreated, SPS can potentially progress to cause difficulty walking and significantly impact a person’s ability to perform routine, daily tasks.
