Authorities say that thousands of police officers have conducted raids against alleged far-right extremists who reportedly attempted to overthrow the government using force over much of Germany.
According to federal prosecutors, on Wednesday, 3,000 officers searched 130 locations in 11 of Germany’s 16 states for members of the so-called Reich Citizens movement.
According to officials, 22 German individuals were detained on the grounds that they may have “membered a terrorist organization.”
Prosecutors allege the group was inspired by the deep state conspiracy theories of Germany’s Reichsbuerger and QAnon, whose advocates were among those arrested after the storming of the U.S. Capitol in January 2021.
Three other people, among them a Russian national, were detained on suspicion of aiding the group.
