Today’s performance at St. Martin’s Theatre in Leister Square in London will mark 70-years since Agatha Christies who-done-it “The Mousetrap” premiered.

It opened on November 25, 1952 at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal and Christie herself thought it might run for eight months.

Instead, it moved to the Ambassadors Theatre in London and played 1,000 times by 1955, became the longest-ever run of a show in the West End with more than 2,200 performances by 1957 and in 1958, began the longest-ever run of a “straight” play in the West End.

It’s been performed almost 29,000 times and has seen by 10 million people.

The show has been staged in Canada and the US before, but never in New York.

Details of the venue and dates for the Broadway run have not yet been announced

The Toronto Tuck Theatre’s staging of “The Mousetrap ended in January of 2004 after a run of more than 26 years.
